Phishing (pronounced "fishing") is when a person or a group of cyber-criminals creates an imitation or copy of an existing legitimate Web page to trick users into providing sensitive personal information, such as credit or debit card numbers, account username and password, social security numbers or PIN numbers. This information is then sold to other criminals, who use it for financial gain. They do this by using a trusted brand of well-known banks, online retailers and credit card companies. The request will include upsetting or exciting statements so people will react immediately and respond with the desired information without thinking.
Check its authenticity by contacting the company that appears to be the originator of the request.
Responding to phishing emails or phone calls puts your accounts at risk.
